A Sarcastic Appetite

Restaurant Round-Up For the Week of June 4

I canvass the food blogs so you don’t have to. Here are some highlights:

Now you can get rowdy and still stuff your face in style, late night; Spitzer’s will be serving its short-rib burger and a shot of Jameson for $12 until 5am. (Ok, ok, after 4am the shot is replaced with a soda, but maybe that’s a good thing.)

Summer means Back Forty Crab Boils every Tuesday until September 1. The 411 on reservations is here; it’s Ko-esque, but still manageable. Early reviews are less than stellar, but things may improve a little later in the season.

Via Eater, next week’s hotly anticipated restaurant: Le Relais de Venise L’Entrecote, set to open to the peons – ahem, public – on Monday. Not much brouhaha has been made of this place – unlike, say, Locanda Verde, but if the lines at the other outposts in London and Paris are any indication, well, we may be in for it.

So it’s not a restaurant, but in the spirit of summer, Cathy Erway of the blog Not Eating Out in NY has a recipe for grilling pizza – a nice change of pace from the usual burgers and ‘dogs. And if you’re looking to branch out in the beverage department, Serious Eats has a handy-dandy mnemonic for bbq-friendly wines.

Next Wednesday, June 10, check out a $40 Riesling tasting at the Tribeca Rooftop; TastingTable has the details. Then on Thursday, saunter over to the Chelsea Wine Vault for one of their Frugal Forums – on Thursday, June 11, $25 snags you a seat in a class on NY wines from 7 to 8pm.

And for all you lazy bums: you can now text your reservation for Dos Caminos. Yikes.

Oh, and GG fans, don’t forget! The Palace Gate opens tomorrow. If you go on opening day and have one of those suckling pig tacos, well, I want to hear about it. Or at least know ahead of time so I can come with you and sample this so-called “Palace Punch”…
